Crystal Springs Zen Sangha

An SF Bay Area Northern Peninsula Sitting Group (founded 1993)

About Us

Since 1993, a group of us have practiced together in the Soto Zen tradition that emphasizes wholehearted silent sitting. Our understanding of zen is inspired by the teachings of Shunryo Suzuki-roshi, author of Zen Mind, Beginners Mind.

Some of us sit on cushions, others on chairs. We use simplified forms and ceremonies that we adapted from those of San Francisco Zen Center. Our talks and discussions are informative, yet also personal, often based on reading a zen text together or sharing experiences related to zazen practice.

Usually about 10 – 20 of us show up each week. Some among us have attended our meetings regularly for years; others drop in just occasionally. Always, all interested in zen practice are welcome.
